'Fortnite Pic' Variation - Card GameTapping the great gameplay of Fortnite and wrapping it into a fun little card game can lead to a fun and light-hearted way to pass the time on the bus or airplane. We've played with a few variations and here's our favorite:Players choose one of two teams (Fortnite or regular Zombies) and create a setup (a location on the board that is largely empty except for a single item or structure). They then take turns placing two items on that setup and reveal their card in response to the opposing team's turn. The first team to have seven objects on the same area wins.If this sounds like a little rough, it is. It's really a sketching of what we tried with a few variations. In the end, we had this design:The idea was to set up a layout similar to a Fortnite map but instead of protecting a large space, we wanted to protect an area that contained objects on each side. This gives players a greater sense of having 'bounded' the opposing team by creating lines of territory that need to be protected. We also wanted a way to keep track of the progress of the game without going into too much detail. The concept is similar to the head-to-head Kill Screen, in that the player who has the most kills at the end of the round wins.Because the game is light and quick, it is a good choice for play-offs between players that want to spend a lot of time playing with the same partner, but only play direct games on occasion. However, if you get together with a group of friends and play it as a social game, you'll likely find that a standard game will last a long time and provide a fun experience for everyone. It's great to get together and do something different than a normal game, especially when the other players aren't looking at the game board, as in a game of Trivial Pursuit.We've found that when using the cards in the usual fashion (every card representing an object in the same area, then revealing your card), the game is really fast. The rules are ea sy enough to read and to memorize and everything is fairly intuitive.While we liked the game and all of its potential, we found ourselves wanting to play it again with just a bit more variation. For example, the scope on the gun seems to get jammed up after a while and sometimes you may find that your weapon might even break.
